Reviews Overview

Most Liked

Customers love the consistently high quality of food at The Friary, with many praising the fish for its freshness and flaky texture. The crispy batter garners compliments, making each bite wonderfully satisfying. Portion sizes also get a nod of approval, leaving diners feeling fully satisfied at a fair price, typically between £10 to £20.

Families appreciate the child-friendly environment, complete with high chairs and a kids' menu. The quick service makes it a favorite among those looking for a fulfilling meal without a long wait. A special mention goes to the excellent tea selection available, perfect for pairing with any dish. The community feel enhances the dining experience, drawling in return visitors who still remember the taste of their first meal here.

Most Disliked

While many rave about The Friary, there are some common critiques as well. A few customers have noted that on particularly busy days, such as weekends, the wait times for food can stretch a bit longer than expected. This is a small trade-off for the quality of the dishes offered but can be frustrating during peak hours.

Some diners also mentioned a desire for more vegetarian and vegan-friendly options. The traditional offerings are primarily meat and fish-focused, which may leave plant-based eaters looking for alternatives. However, the shop's focus on classic fish and chips aligns with its longstanding reputation, so changes in the menu may take some time.

Finally, a few reviews pointed out that parking can be a challenge during peak times due to the popularity of the location, especially on Saturdays. Planning ahead is best if you aim to visit during busy hours.

Service was 10/10, good value food. The woman serving did a good job. I ordered a chicken burger with chips, today at around 1pm. Would recommend if you’re in Stockport .

Absolutely delicious fish and chips. Fish was fresh and flaky, batter was crispy. Chips were great too. Staff were very polite when I asked if they cooked in Veg oil, lovely lady said they cooked in Palm oil, that'll do me 😋😋

Best Fish and Chips Around. I’m really fussy about non home cooked chips and these are the best in the area. Fish is good, puddings and gravy fab and very friendly service. I pass several chippies to get here and have never been disappointed. It’s my partner’s choice when visiting.

They always say you get what you pay for. So true here. Slightly overpriced.....but absolutely excellent food! The fish was perfect, light fluffy chips.....and good old fashioned chip-shop curry sauce! Highly recommended!

Really friendly staff and amazing service. But avoid using JustEat if you’re getting delivery.
